Devlog 4: mid production sprint 1

Hi everybody!

Another week, another update!

Level
We filled the room with props and tried different wallpapers to see which one matches the  style of the room.
We stumbled upon the problem that our room is too bright/orange, we need to keep this in mind for the next weeks and give the props some more color variation.

We placed the camera on a more top down view then previous weeks, this really shows off the room in the best way without losing too much playspace. The overall blockout also changed back to the more simple shape of our prototype, since we noticed the one from last week just wasn't working as well.

Characters
The babies don't need to be cold anymore! No no, this week they are dressed in cute cozy animal onesies.

Models
We extended our collection of models and it starts to look like quite the bunch.  The biggest pieces of furniture are finished and we made sure that every single prop is now unwrapped and ready to be placed in the room. Next week we will add some lamps and dress up the room with  carpets, windows and curtains.

Code

For programming we continued remaking the prototype in proper code.
But a few extra features were added.

Movement
Now players have a walking state and a running state.
This determins if their maximum speed as well as how hard it is for them to change direction.
As their momentum is also higher.

Tagging
The players can also be caught by the tagger now. They will be moved to the crib until the end of the game or until one of their friends helps them out ,and frees them from their precarious situation, by touching the crib.

Dynamic Material
The material used for the players has also recieved an update and will now be place on top of the players.
According to the models normals to be more specific. With a nice transition on the side.
It is fully adjustable so during the game it can slowly decrease as the player moves about.

Reset
When a player gets tagged he gets sent to the crib. If all players are caught then a level reset will be triggered.

Plans for next week:

- adding in the important elements left, e.g Windows
- toning down orange colour sheme
- creating a warm and clear light setup
- rigging and skinning the characters
- give the characters some animation
- let the players save each other
- letting the tagger extend his or her tagging range
- making it more clear who the tagger is
- making the milkbottle explosion trap
