Devlog 8: end of production

Hello, happy to have you on our project page again.

This week was the last week of production, this means the functionality of the game should be implemented by now and it will only be polishing what we have from now on. We hope you like it!

Programming:
This was the week of bug-fixing, and finishing touches. We finished linking up the UI, fixing the many build issues it previously gave us in the process. Furthermore, we also implemented our second game mode, which can be selected from the start menu. We also linked all the different levels (start screen, the actual game, and the winning screen) together, allowing for a finished game loop.

We also fixed a lot of miscellaneous bugs, from random crashes in the main menu, to the tagger being able to re-tag babies already tagged in the crib, physics objects flying off, and much more. These are now all fixed.

Sound:
All levels will have some music playing in the background, which sets a playful vibe. There have been a selection of the sounds, some made the cut, others had to go.

In the video underneath you will hear the different sounds when babies walk against toys.

Model:
We always said that more hiding spots are welcome, that's why we added a new model. It's a box where players can hide behind. We tried adding physics to the box but that gave a non-wanted effect where the box flew around the room, so that's why it doesn't have physics for now.

New Room:
Since we are working with two game modes, we also decided to make an extra room for the free for all gamemode. This is still just a test level and we are planning on making it look more interesting when polishing. But for now it was important not to have the crib in there since it does not get used inthis  game and we want to focus on making more hiding spots in this specific gamemode.

UI:
We created the missing UI's, this was quite the bunch: game mode, options, pause, score overview and control overview. Some of them still look a little flat but we will polish them in the upcoming weeks.

  • Score overview
After every round this overview will be shown, so every player knows if it can still win the game.
We would dress it up something like this with stars as scores.
  • Pause Menu
Video below will show you our pause screen layout.
  • Loading Screen
This is in our loading screen as well now, that way the players can get an introduction to the controls while waiting for the game to load.

  • HUD
The HUD has pacifiers in the left top corner,  every pacifier counts for a baby in the crib. The milkbottle is shown in the right top corner and when it's completely filled the tagger can place this bottle somewhere on the ground. And last but not least we have a timer in the top center.
  • Settings
We created classes for the sounds, now we can adjust the volume in the options menu, shown below:

Gameplay:
Here is a short demonstration of the gameplay. The last baby is trying to get away to save his fellow siblings, meanwhile the tagger is trying to tag them all to win the round.
